The European Space Sciences Committee (ESSC) commemorated its 50th anniversary with a series of events in Strasbourg, marking five decades of outstanding contributions to space sciences.
Highlights of the Celebration:
Evening Planetarium Show: A captivating journey through the European space race, curated by the Armagh Observatory and Planetarium, provided insight into Europe’s role in space science. ESSC Chair, Prof Chris Rapley CBE, honored the legacy of Sir Harrie Massey, the ESSC’s founding Chair.
18th April – Day of Reflection: Distinguished speakers, including Kai-Uwe Schrogl (ESA) and Prof David Southwood CBE, reflected on the ESSC’s pivotal role in European space science. ESSC Chair Chris Rapley presented a vision for the future.
Daytime Event at Villa Sturm: Attendees explored an exhibition showcasing the ESSC’s five decades of groundbreaking work in space sciences.
The celebrations brought together past and present members, friends of the ESSC, and space science enthusiasts, offering an opportunity to reminisce, network, and envision the future of space exploration.
