MARTA MARCOS is an Associate Professor at the Department of Physics in the University of the Balearic Islands (Spain) and a research fellow at the Mediterranean Institute for Advanced Studies (IMEDEA, CSIC-UIB). She has been a postdoctoral researcher at the Université de La Rochelle (France) and the National Oceanography Centre (UK), and a visiting scientist at the University of York (UK) and University of Reading (UK). Her research focuses on ocean climate variability, aiming at improving the current understanding of different physical processes taking place in the ocean and lower atmosphere. These include ocean thermal response and ocean-atmosphere heat and momentum exchanges, water mass changes, ocean circulation and oceanic extreme events, all of them encompassing a wide range of spatial and temporal scales. Her work combines the use of in-situ and remote sensing observations and numerical and data-driven models.

Marta has contributed to more than 130 peer-reviewed publications which have been cited over 5000 times. She serves as a member of the Global Sea Level Observing System (GLOSS) advisory board, of the EuroGOOS Task Team for tide gauges, she is a contributing author to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Sixth Assessment Report for Working Group 1, a member of the Knowledge Hub on Sea Level Rise and co-chair of the European Climate Research Alliance Collaborative Programme on Sea Level. She has been PI or co-I in over 20 research national and international projects.
