VINCIANE DEBAILLE is a Senior Research Associate at the Fonds de la Recherche Scientifique (FNRS) and professor at the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) in Brussels, Belgium. She received her PhD from the Université Blaise Pascal of Clermont-Ferrand (France). She has been a postdoctoral fellow of the Lunar and Planetary Institute in Houston, and then FNRS postdoctoral fellow before obtaining a FNRS permanent research position at ULB.
Her current interest is the study of the planet Mars, either through chemical analyzes of martian meteorites, or by participating to the Mars2020 mission as return sample scientist. She also participated to the International Mars Sample Return Objectives and Samples Team (iMOST) and the Mars Sample Return Science Planning Group Phase 2 (MSPG2).
By using radiogenic and stable isotopes, she is interested in the formation and evolution of the solar system through to the study of meteorites, and was awarded an ERC Starting Grant in 2014. She is also working on the habitability of planets, i.e. the different conditions required for a planet to host life, even if life did not appear. She is studying ancient terrestrial igneous domains to understand Earth early differentiation.
She participated to three missions in Antarctica to collect meteorites in blue ice fields, and two in the desert of Atacama in Chile. As such, she is interested in the curation of extraterrestrial samples on Earth and contributed to the H2020 project Euro-Cares (European Curation of Astromaterials Returned from Exploration of Space, 2015-2017).
